Your information and how it is used

This notice covers the current early version of Camera Settings Guide.

Information we use

You can use the settings guide without logging in. When you have an account, the site may store your email address, display name, encrypted password, chosen camera and lenses, saved recommendations, notes and feedback about whether settings worked.

Why we use it

Account information is used to provide secure access to your saved gear and recommendation history. Saved recommendations and optional feedback are used to provide the service and help improve the quality of the guidance.

Cookies

The site uses an essential session cookie to keep you logged in securely and protect account actions. The current version does not require advertising or tracking cookies. A consent banner is not used for this essential cookie in the current version.

Sharing and sale of information

We do not sell your personal information. Information is not shared with advertisers. Service providers may process limited technical data where necessary to host and operate the website.

Photo uploads and EXIF information

Complimentary Premium early access may allow you to attach private JPEG photos to a saved recommendation. The site stores a private original, a resized display copy and a thumbnail, and may extract technical information such as camera, lens, focal length, aperture, shutter speed and ISO. Uploaded photos are visible only through the logged-in account that owns the recommendation.

Improving recommendations

Feedback about whether a recommendation or photo worked helps us test and improve Camera Settings Guide. If you delete a recommendation, its photos, title, written notes, exact dates, locations and account links are deleted. We may retain a tightly limited, non-identifiable technical summary of the recommendation, recorded camera settings, comparison categories and selected outcome. This summary is not intended to identify you and will not include the photo or free-text comments.

Retention and control

You can remove individual photos and saved recommendations through your account. Deleting a photo removes its private original, display copy, thumbnail, EXIF record and photo feedback. Account deletion and formal information-request arrangements will be expanded before a wider public rollout. Early-access users can use the contact route through which they were invited if they need help with their information or wish to object to anonymised technical summaries being used to improve the service.

Future location and AI features

Saved locations and AI-assisted analysis are not part of the current service. If introduced, they will have clear controls and updated privacy information before users are asked to use them.
